Spherical Roller Bearings

Spherical roller bearings are rolling bearings with automatic self-aligning function, designed to withstand heavy radial loads and certain bidirectional axial loads. They consist of double-row drum rollers, spherical outer ring raceways and cages, and can automatically compensate for deviations caused by installation errors, shaft deflection or housing misalignment. They are widely used in heavy loads, impact loads or shaft deflection. This type of bearing is a very critical component in industrial machinery and is suitable for complex working conditions with high rigidity and high impact, such as metallurgical equipment, heavy machinery, mining equipment, etc.Self-aligning bearings, also known as spherical bearings, are rolling bearings with self-aligning capabilities. They can operate normally even when there is a certain angular error between the shaft and the housing. The core design is that the outer ring raceway is a spherical structure, and the inner ring is equipped with double rows of symmetrically distributed balls or rollers, which are fixed by a special cage. This structure gives the self-aligning bearing a unique “self-aligning” ability, which can compensate for axial misalignment caused by installation errors, shaft bending or foundation deformation, effectively reduce local stress concentration, and extend the service life of the equipment.

What are spherical roller bearings?

The spherical roller bearing consists of two roller rows and an outer ring with a spherical raceway, two inner ring raceways with ribs, and a cage. The rollers are drum-shaped and move freely in the spherical track of the outer ring. They have good self-aligning function and can allow a certain angle of inclination between the inner and outer rings (generally not more than 2°~3°, and some designs can reach 4°).

The line contact structure between the rollers gives it an extremely high radial load capacity, and because the rollers are arranged in double rows, they can also withstand axial loads in both directions.

2.Product Features

inner and outer rings allow a certain angle of misalignment, usually not more than 2°~4°

3.Applications

Self-aligning bearings are widely used in industrial applications where shaft deviation compensation is required due to their self-alignment and high load-bearing capacity. The main applications are as follows:

(1) Heavy machinery: For example, mining machinery, metallurgical machinery, construction machinery, etc., self-aligning bearings can operate smoothly under harsh conditions.

(2) Textile and papermaking industry: The shafts of textile and papermaking machinery may be slightly misaligned or bent during operation. Self-aligning bearings can automatically compensate for these irregularities, ensuring smooth operation of the equipment and improving production efficiency.

(3) Agricultural equipment: Since agricultural equipment works in complex outdoor environments, the use of self-aligning bearings can extend the service life of the equipment.

(4) Conveying equipment: Material conveyor shafts, belt conveyors and other equipment may be misaligned after long-term use. The use of self-aligning bearings can reduce friction and extend the service life of the equipment.

(5) Ship and railway industry: Since the mechanical parts of trains and ships must withstand complex working conditions and vibrations, self-aligning bearings are used in axles, transmissions and other key components to maintain consistent performance.
